Motocross ace Terry Meeks was also an enduro expert showing impeccable style as usual at the 1977 VSE enduro.
VINDURO NZ VISION
Vinduro NZ is a celebration of the classic period of enduro competition when enduros were a test of man and relatively unsophisticated machinery against terrain. The intention is to encourage the preservation and use of a wide diversity of vintage enduro bikes and foster the spirit of camerarderie and social interaction of the period. Vinduro NZ is intended primarily to encourage participation, competition is secondary. In each event a non-scoring Vintrail Ride will be held on the same course for those riders attending simply for fun. MX based bikes are welcome to participate as always, however all bikes must be muffled to modern standards. Riders are encouraged to fit a headlight to honour the spirit of Vinduro when courses ranged far and wide and included public roads.
Vinduro differs from VMX in that it is long course event run over unknown and often challenging terrain with the objective that the rider maintains a predetermined average speed no matter what that terrain throws up. The course should be no more than two laps of the entire circuit. That said, the route has to be realistic in terms of length and difficulty and consider the age of the riders and machines involved. The entire course will be offroad so that no registration is required.
The philosophy is to classify bikes in categories by major shifts in technology, rather than a combination of technology and absolute model years. The technology shifts chosen are the obvious ones, five speed transmissions, long travel suspension suspension, rising rate suspension, drum brakes and liquid cooling. While there are sure to be other views on bike eligibility these rules are liberal, in the spirit of the era celebrated and representative of most Vinduro organisations world-wide. These rules leave plenty of scope for picking up a bargain and to ride, a wide variety of machinery. Check the Vinduro NZ regs for more detail.
